Do you think this one will stick around a bit longer than the others?

Yeah, I’m not sure how much water that statement holds given that this is my 9th car in 4 years but it’s been several weeks and I have felt absolutely zero need to visit Autotrader or just “check and see” what the local dealers have. I have racked my brain and can’t think of anything I’d rather own, short of a newer 2nd gen S80. Even that is just a ‘would be nice’ scenario. I’ve never had a car that puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel like this one does.

Isnt that a nice feeling? To be completely in love with your dd? Thats how I feel everytime I look at my truck. Ive been late to class a couple times because I was staring at it in the parking garage for too long

Is that the 6 or 8? Not too long ago Someone posted a video of the V8 with straight pipes and it sounded amazing

It’s actually a turbo 5cylinder. The V8 didn’t become available until the second generation S80 came about in 2007 I believe.

Fellow Volvo owner!

Beautiful S80! Really do love those but for someone my age (17) it’s a bit too big. But man are they comfy.

Its just feels like a master of all trades, in my opinion. It’s supremely comfortable, with a very soft ride and excellent seats, but doesn’t feel wallowy or mush like larger land yachts do. The styling is clean and crisp and in my opinion, fairly timeless. This car doesn’t look a decade old and certainly doesn’t look like a design that originally debuted in 1999. The engine sounds great under throttle, makes a very hearty, confidence inspiring noise, and the acceleration is more than adequate, but once you get up to speed virtually all road and wind noise is filtered out. Visibility is fantastic, especially since there’s a button on the dash to pop down the rear seat head restraints. It also gets nearly 30 MPG regularly for me (on premium though), is one of the safest cars ever built, and dropped my insurance premiums dramatically.

I’ve owned a Panther so size isn’t an issue for me. Really, the S80 (atleast in this generation) is only about the size of a Fusion, even though its marketed as a fullsize.

Do love your C30 though, it looks great.

Cool, good info! Sounds like a pretty solid ride.

I’ve always wanted a Volvo and have eyed the S80 quite a few times. Thought, being Volvo’s flagship sedan, I kind of worry about high ticket repair bills. Hard to argue that’d it probably be the best daily driver possible.

I did my research before buying one. Absolutely avoid the T6 models, at least of this generation (1999-2006) the engine isn’t bad but the transmission has a very high failure rate. The T5 (my car) debuted in 2004 and has a considerably more reliable, but still not perfect, 5 speed auto. Aside from one or two electrical issues (e.g. ABS sensors) they’re pretty reliable.

One of the beauties of the 1999-2006 S80 is that its built on the same Ford platform as the Five Hundred. Many of the common wear mechanical parts are cheap Ford units rather than expensive Swedish ones.

Hmm, interesting. That’s cool! I sometimes forget Ford’s tie in with Volvo in the 00’s.
